Susan Roberts, a New York graduate student researching composer Henry Ryman for her thesis, arrives at his widow Danielle's French estate to access his materials. There, she meets Georges Ryman, Henry and Danielle's wheelchair-bound son who had a promising tennis career ended by an accident six years prior. Susan resembles Georges' ex-girlfriend Catherine, who left him after the accident.
