Sean Crawler, a handyman, meets Duke Wayne while painting a house and they become acquaintances. Duke offers Sean a job involving surveillance on Eric Gatley, an accountant investigating Ray Matthews, a corrupt contractor. During his stakeouts, Sean develops feelings for Susan Gatley, Eric's wife. When Ray offers Sean $13,000 to kill Eric, Sean accepts but steals Ray's dossier before leaving the crime scene. However, Sean is betrayed by Ray and tortured by a real estate mobster and his men at a lonely ranch. Severely injured, Sean escapes and seeks refuge in a mission where Susan works. After four weeks of recovery, Sean tries to start a new life with Susan but faces her wrath when she discovers the truth about him. Driven by revenge, Sean plans to take down Ray and his men.
