His funeral is barely over when an unidentified man visits the widow; she responds with vehement rejection. The story rewinds five decades to Florentino Ariza, a telegraph boy, who falls instantly in love with Fermina Daza, daughter of a mule trader. Ariza's pursuit is relentless: love letters pour forth, romantic serenades echo through the streets, yet Fermina's father intervene, ultimately driving her into the arms of Dr. Juvenal Urbino, a respected physician. For decades, Ariza nurses his unrequited love, seeking solace in countless Affairs. But after Urbino's untimely death, does Ariza still harbor unrealistic hopes for rekindling his long-lost love?
