ストーリー
Isabel Archer (Nicole Kidman), an American heiress and free spirit, travels to Europe where she befriends her cousin Ralph Touchett (John Malkovich) who has inherited a fortune from his wealthy father. Isabel's newfound independence draws the attention of Caspar Goodwood (Viggo Mortensen), but she tactfully rejects him. She forms a deeper connection with Ralph despite his poor health, and unwisely becomes entangled in an alliance with Madame Merle (Barbara Hershey). Through Madame Merle's influence, Isabel marries Gilbert Osmond (Bruce Willis), an art collector who sees Isabel as another piece of art to acquire. Isabel realizes too late that Madame Merle and Osmond had planned this union to secure her fortune. She finds solace in Osmond's daughter Pansy until she learns the truth about Pansy's parentage from Osmond's sister, the Countess Gemini (Valeria Golino). Isabel ultimately leaves Osmond and returns to Ralph's side as he dies, acknowledging their deep spiritual connection.
