In 1956, Sylvia Plath, an aspiring American poet studying at Cambridge, meets and falls in love with fellow poet Ted Hughes. They marry shortly after meeting. Sylvia struggles with living in Ted's professional shadow as he gains more recognition for his writing. She suspects him of infidelity and suffers emotionally due to their relationship dynamics. Despite her turmoil, Sylvia finds success as a writer, publishing a semi-autobiographical novel and poetry collections. She attempts to reconcile with Ted but has alternative plans if their relationship doesn't improve.
