Maurice Russell, an aging veteran actor in London, finds himself drawn to Jessie, his close friend Ian's grandniece who has come to live with him. Maurice nicknames her 'Venus' after a painting he admires. Despite their age difference and contrasting personalities, Maurice tries to expose Jessie to the benefits of his wisdom and cultural knowledge, while she challenges him to rediscover his youthful vigor.
