Brit Heyworth Marling (born August 7, 1983) is an American actress, writer, producer, and director. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was named after her Norwegian maternal great-grandmother. After graduating from Georgetown University with degrees in economics and studio art, serving as valedictorian, Marling turned down a job offer at Goldman Sachs to pursue filmmaking. She co-wrote, co-directed, and acted in the 2004 documentary 'Boxers and Ballerinas'. In 2011, she starred in and co-wrote/produced 'Sound of My Voice', which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She also played Richard Gere's daughter in 'Arbitrage' (2012) and led 'The East' (2013).
