Full Biography

Yoko Shimada, born in Kumamoto City, Japan (1953), started learning ballet at age three, aspiring to be a ballerina. She moved to Tokyo at eight and began acting during her junior high school years. Her breakthrough role came with the TV serial 'Zoku Hyoten' in 1970. She gained international recognition playing Mariko in the 1980 miniseries 'Shogun', winning a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV-Series - Drama and earning an Emmy nomination. Despite speaking some English for 'Shogun', Shimada primarily acted in Japanese productions prior. In 1992, she released a bestselling nude photo book titled 'Kir Royal' at age 39. At 57, she starred in an AV video called 'Mikkai' in 2011. Known for her space burial reservation.
