Camilla Rutherford was born and raised with her sisters in Holland Park. Her father worked as a writer for The Financial Times, and her mother was a magistrate. She studied Mathematics at Newcastle University. She married Rufus Abbott after meeting him at a party in London, and they had a traditional Roman Catholic wedding at St. George's Church in Campden Hill. They have two children named Hector and Maud.

Story
Claire Beaucage, after her Montreal apartment burns down, travels to Toronto to stay with her boyfriend, a photographer of some renown whom she had a one-night stand with previously. Upon arrival, she discovers he's missing and soon finds herself mistaken for Lily Warden, a woman wanted by the police for murdering a local gangster. While trying to clear her name, Claire is pursued by both the police and a gang of criminals looking for Lily.
