ストーリー

Mateo lives in a seemingly idyllic world with his mother, Libertad, until he is diagnosed with cancer. The story explores their toxic relationship as they navigate this sudden crisis, drawing parallels between their dynamic and the oppressive dictatorship of North Korea.

概要

La Piedad (2022), directed by Eduardo Casanova, is a dark comedy-drama that intertwines Mateo's cancer diagnosis with a broader commentary on authoritarianism. The film explores the complex and toxic relationship between Mateo and his mother, Libertad, as they struggle to cope with Mateo's illness in their isolated world. Set against the backdrop of North Korea's dictatorship, La Piedad uses this context to highlight the parallels between oppressive regimes and dysfunctional family dynamics.
