American journalist Alan Foster travels to London for an interview with Edgar Allan Poe, but finds himself entangled in a bet with Lord Blackwood to spend a night in his supposedly haunted castle, Blackwood Castle. Despite initial skepticism, Foster soon encounters genuine supernatural phenomena within the castle walls on All Soul's Eve. As ghosts search for blood to sustain them for another year, Foster falls in love with Elizabeth Blackwood, the lord's daughter, while navigating the living dead and the castle's dark secrets.
