Full Biography
Aaliyah Dana Haughton (1979-2001), known professionally as Aaliyah, was an American singer, actress, and model born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Detroit, Michigan. She began her career on the TV show Star Search at age 12 and signed with Jive Records and Blackground Records. Her debut album 'Age Ain't Nothing but a Number', produced by R. Kelly, was released in 1994. After facing marriage allegations with Kelly, she left Jive for Atlantic Records. Her second album 'One in a Million' (1996) sold over eight million copies worldwide. Aaliyah acted in her first film 'Romeo Must Die' in 2000 and released the hit single 'Try Again'. She died in an airplane crash on August 25, 2001, while filming the music video for 'Rock the Boat'. Her family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Blackhawk International Airways.
