Betty Berr was a French actress, producer, and cultural manager, born as Anna Betty Maud Berrebi on August 1, 1944, in Tunis, which was then the French Protectorate of Tunisia. Over the course of her career, she became a versatile figure in the European film industry, recognized not only for her screen presence but also for her work behind the scenes.
She is best known for her collaborations with influential directors, most notably portraying Mali in Alain Tanner’s 1985 drama No Man's Land. Her filmography also includes significant roles in Tony Gatlif's La terre au ventre (1978) and Jean-Luc Godard's experimental television series France/tour/detour/deux enfants (1977).
Beyond acting, Berr made a lasting impact on the film community as a cultural leader. For over two decades, she co-directed the Cinéma de Contis and the international film festival in the Landes region of France alongside Rainer Wothe. Berr passed away on September 3, 2021, in Cambo-les-Bains, France, at the age of 77.
