Camélia Montassere is a versatile artist who has made significant contributions as an actress, assistant director, director, writer, and dancer. Born in Morocco in 1977, she moved to France at the age of 12 and began her artistic journey with dance, performing on international stages and notably serving as the appointed dancer for the renowned Raï star Cheikha Rimitti from 2002 to 2006.
Her passion for writing led her to participate in collective works and publish her first story, Baisant, seule, in 2007, which featured a preface by Nobel Prize in Literature winner JMG Le Clézio. Subsequently, she entered the world of cinema, which allowed her to combine her experiences in dance and writing.
Montassere has worked as a first assistant director on several films, including Nabil Ayouch's Much Loved (2015), which was revealed at the Cannes Film Festival's Directors' Fortnight. As an actress, she played the lead role in the feature film Beyond the Mirror (2016) by Aurélien Real. Drawing on her diverse experience, she also wrote and directed her own short film, Under Trance, in 2018.
