Throughout her career, Deneuve has portrayed enigmatic characters in films directed by influential figures such as Jacques Demy, Luis Buñuel, François Truffaut, and Roman Polanski. Notably, she won a César Award for her role in Truffaut's 'The Last Metro' (1980) and was chosen as the official face of Marianne, France's national symbol of liberty, succeeding Mireille Mathieu in 1985.
