Janet Damita Jo Jackson, born May 16, 1966, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actress known for her innovative music, elaborate stage shows, and prominent roles in television and film. Beginning her career with 'The Jacksons' (1976), she gained international recognition following the release of 'Control' (1986). Her collaborations with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis resulted in crossover hits blending R&B, funk, disco, rap, and industrial beats. She signed record-breaking contracts with Virgin Records in 1991, becoming a sex symbol with her album 'Janet' (1993). With over 160 million records sold, she is one of the best-selling artists globally, holding numerous records on the Billboard charts.
