Mayte Garcia is an American dancer, actress, and singer. Born on November 12, 1973, in Alabama to Puerto Rican parents, she grew up in the US and Germany due to her father's military career. A prodigy in dance, she appeared on the TV show That's Incredible! at age seven as the world's youngest professional belly dancer and later became a prima ballerina with the Wiesbaden Ballet.
Her life changed dramatically when, as a teenager, her mother submitted a video of her dancing to a member of Prince's entourage. This led to her meeting and working with the music icon, joining his New Power Generation band on tour. Mayte became Prince's muse and first wife; they were married from 1996 to 2000. Their marriage and the tragic loss of their son soon after birth are chronicled in her 2017 memoir, The Most Beautiful: My Life with Prince.
Beyond her time with Prince, Garcia has established a career as a choreographer (including for Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U" video) and an actress, with guest roles in shows like Army Wives, Psych, Nip/Tuck, and 2 Broke Girls. She also appeared as a main cast member on the reality TV series Hollywood Exes. She has an adopted daughter, Gia, born on her 38th birthday.
