Born as Maria Luísa de Sousa Dantas Lopes on December 7, 1953, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the actress widely known by her stage name Xuxa Lopes has built a prolific career across Brazilian cinema, television, and theater.
She began her formal artistic training in the 1970s at the renowned Tablado Theater and made her professional stage debut in 1976. Throughout the 1980s, she became a prominent figure in Brazilian film, notably appearing in Nelson Rodrigues adaptations like the 1981 version of Bonitinha, mas Ordinária. Her filmography also includes collaborations with celebrated directors, such as her work in Foolish Heart (1996), directed by her former husband Hector Babenco.
On television, she earned recognition for her roles in popular TV Globo telenovelas, including Mulheres Apaixonadas (2003) and Laços de Família (2000). Beyond her screen work, her theatrical talent was distinguished with the prestigious Shell Award for Best Actress for her performance in Death and the Maiden.
