Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford appears to be a pillar of his small west Texas community, but secretly he is a sociopathic sadist struggling with his 'sickness'. His boss sends him to confront a prostitute living in a rural house, but instead of arresting her, they engage in a sexual relationship. Lou begins a revenge plot using the woman's devotion for him, targeting the wealthy son of Chester Conway, the town's construction kingpin.
